While WordPress is probably one of the most popular blogging platforms in the world, many people only see it as a cheap or free blogging platform without actually knowing the advantages that come with using it. Being open source, WordPress brings along series of advantages starting with the fact that a lot of functionalities are regularly updated by the WordPress developers. Comments, posts, galleries and other elements of the blog will suffer changes over time and they will benefit from the latest technologies.

The content management system is one of the most important advantages you get from using your WordPress platform. You will be able to easily add new content including videos, pictures and products to your blog whenever you want. It is a very simple process that can be learnt in a matter of minutes by even the less Internet savvy persons. Being easy to use is very important especially because many people want to start their own blogs and they do not want to spend a lot of hours learning how to use the blogging platform.

There is a search mechanism that superficially resembles Google that searches for words as the user types them in. This is called Dave’s WordPress live search mechanism. There is yet another search mechanism that facilitates multi-level navigation with drop down menus in a hierarchical format. This is referred to as multi-level navigation. WP search Plug-ins aid in advanced search features – as search features provided by WordPress were rather limited.
The ‘search everything’ navigation add-on helps widen the range of page numbers and tags which were previously limited in number. WP-pagination refers to numeric pagination which was primitive initially by referring to posts as simply old or new. This feature allows selection of page by its number.
A tree like format for hierarchical navigation is provided by the WP-dtree, which allows collapsible menus in a particular order selected by the user.
Any software product has to keep up with changing needs and requirements according to the rate of evolution of the other software products. The software industry has one of the highest rates of turnover and any software package that is not able to adapt itself rapidly is headed towards extinction. By reinventing itself, WordPress has displayed its adaptability.

WordPress features were rather limited initially, but with several add-ons in the form of plug-ins, many of these shortcomings have been rectified to a large extent. The plug-ins have aided in enhancing the quality of the WordPress interface and in expanding the scope of WordPress navigation abilities. These are some of the available extra plug-ins.

Carousel Gallery

The original gallery offered by WordPress is a stationery one and jQuery features allow the static gallery to be transformed into a flip-able one to the user’s advantage.

Admin trim interface

This plug-in helps in managing clutter in the administration interface and helps to arrange and delete unwanted items. The user can

U1 labs

This refers to a backend interface of WordPress and U1 experiments. This feature helps with status of posts like drafted or pending posts.

When you have a great resume listed online, you won’t even need to search for jobs. Employers will come looking for you. However, if that is not happening with you, then you might want to read further to “correct” your resume so that you may land a job you have always dreamed of:

List the Portfolio at the TOP:

1. A portfolio is the most important part of a designer’s resume and if you are resume doesn’t list its link or places it somewhere difficult to find, then you are making the biggest mistake of your life.

Provide the URL to your resume right at the top. Bold, highlight, italicize, whatever but make sure it is easily noticeable.

Recruiters don’t have all the time in the world to keep searching for your portfolio in your resume. If they don’t find it easily they might just move on to another resume.

2. Be up-to-date with latest trends and techniques:

Follow the latest Web Design blogs, successful designers on Twitter and network with them on Facebook. Use social media such as Flickr, Dribble, DeviantArt to check the latest works. Read books, take courses to upgrade your knowledge. Expand your horizons by attending meet ups. Do something to show your prospective employer that you are improving or at least making an effort to learn new things everyday.

3. Make a Tailor-made resume:

Recruiters hate nothing more than a generic resume. Take some time out to prepare a resume just for ‘that’ job, tailored perfectly according to the job description. You make the impression that you cared enough to at least go through the job description completely. Include only relevant details accordingly and cut the crap.

4. Include required experience or projects:

For those skills that are not listed on your portfolio use ThemeForest or go for open source projects. No harm even if you do some work for yourself just to add it to your portfolio. This shows that if you haven’t done a particular kind of work earlier, you are capable of doing it in future for the prospective employer.

5. Boring Resume:

A bland resume won’t be able to grab your recruiters attention. Unleash your creative potential and make it as unique, appealing and eye catchy as possible. After all, its a resume for the position of a Designer. Dedicate a whole website to act as your resume.

Do a Google search for most commonly used keywords being listed in Designer job descriptions. Incorporate them creatively and effectively in your resume. Have copies of your resume readily available in different formats so that you can provide them to your prospective employers in whichever format they prefer. Take some pain in creating the best resume you can as your resume makes the first impression with your employers and also is one of the most vital element in deciding the job offers you get.
Experiment. Be Different. And your resume will definitely stand out and eventually will make you stand out from the rest.

Whenever any content is put up, it has become an increasing practice to make the content more interactive with the readers. This interaction is enabled with the help of a comments section where a reader can comment on the section he has read and post this comment in the space given. Threaded comment would man this first comment would be followed by other readers who would give their feedback on the first comment. This is called threaded because these comments are interlinked to each other and the response is triggered from one comment to another.

WordPress typically has an excellent function which allows generation of an easy plug in which makes this comments box available under ‘Other comments setting’ section. It allows controlling of the levels of the conversation (how many responses does the web page creator want) and also moving or deleting of inappropriate comments. WordPress also allows a customizable HTML based admin section to create such threaded comment sections.

This section will briefly run you through how you can create such a threaded comment section using CSS and HTML code.

• The main idea is to reduce HTTP requests to the server and control the number of files in one section. The Heading is at the top of the web page and inside this section will be the file ID “content”. This is where all the code will be written and stored. For a 3 page comment, the first comment sits inside the root node while the two are threaded replies. The container has all the comment information.
• The container will consist of the username, date and time of posting, content and the reply within. For further internal comments, the division is left bank. This is how jQuery can be used to optimum levels to create threaded comments without having to refresh the page.
• Each comment block has a unique ID feature to identify it and link appropriate threads to it.

DOM: Document Object Model

This is based on HTML structuring. JQuery allows access to each individual element and edit or amend information or add page elements without having to refresh the page each time. This is a tremendous saving of time and effort. Once the DOM is structured and ready, you can begin calling functions.

• You can have small reply links after comments. jQuery allows triggers after each ‘reply’ link is clicked. This trigger sets off an internal function to display new comments on the screen.
• Page variables can be initialized which can be attributed with repeated access. Remember that HTML form variables should be self explanatory and should contain all HTML data code to embed into the web page for any new comment. (Word Press allows notification of new comments to your email).

In short all WordPress features can be created by jQuery in a customized format for the user. It may seem very tough to work the code but actually it’s not that difficult to do.
