In web design, the perception of the end users regarding a website is very important. In order to ensure that you create a good first impression, here are some bad techniques to avoid.

Bad organization of a website is probably one of the most annoying things to clients. You should always ensure that your site is organized logically and clients can locate everything they want to with ease. It is important to put all the content of the site where clients expect them. The content of the site should be written well without any spelling and grammatical mistakes. It is also important to go through the content after writing it to ensure that everything is perfect.

Some sites are considered insulting to the eyes of the clients. These are sites that have too many colours. Inexperienced web designers are likely to use many colours in their website thinking that they look good and they will be appealing to the clients. However, many colours are likely to annoy clients rather than appeal to them. Some clients may also have eye problems and they may not be able to visualize some colours comfortably. An example is the colour blind people who can only be able to visualize some colours and are unable to visualize others. Experts in web design recommend that two or three colours to be used in a website. The three colours can be used for background, text and images if any. They should produce a high contrast to allow visibility. Good contrast is ensured by interchanging dark and bright colours. In this case, if the colour of the background is dark, then the colour of the text and images should be bright.

Font size and punctuation determines how clients will perceive the site. If large capitalized fonts are used, clients are likely to feel like the site is shouting to them. On the other hand, small low cased fonts will make the clients feel like they are not getting anything from your site. It is important to maintain consistency in the site by the use of for example sentence case where low and upper case letters are used. The font of the text should be standard, not too big and not too small. At the same time, calligraphic fonts should not be used unless the site is meant for wedding, valentines and special holidays.

Blinking links, pop up windows and background sounds should not be used in all websites. Blinking links and pop up windows are meant to get the attention of the client. However, not all clients are fascinated by them. Use of the two in professional sites is deemed annoying because they only distract the attention of the client. Background sounds can be used in some sites but not all. Young people may be marvelled by these sounds but they can be annoying to other clients. Youth like entertainment and they would embrace sites with such features. You can gauge whether your site is appealing or annoying by visiting it before publishing it for clients to access it. Change everything that you need to before allowing clients to access it.
