Security is one of the most important things that any webmaster should never lack. Security ensures that your data is safe and you can always handle any security threats that come your way. This can be ensured by limiting people getting access to your site, make sure that your site is capable of withstanding any threat even when there are weak points and always keep back up of your site from time to time. These factors can be facilitated by the following guidelines.

Whenever you are creating posts or any other content that is to be posted to the wordpress site, always make sure that the computer you are using is safe. Certify that there are no spyware, malware, viruses and other threats on the computer. It is important to use up to date antivirus which has firewall and other security associated components. The antivirus should also be able to prevent intrusions which may leave your computer having malware, spyware and viruses. These threats are capable of compromising posts and other content you publish on your wordpress site.

WordPress sites are vulnerable to external threats. Some factors increase this vulnerability for example having old versions of wordpress while there are newer versions. Always ensure that your site is updated regularly to prevent such problems. You can set the site update status the status automatic updates. This way, newer versions of wordpress are installed as soon as they are released. You can also update wordpress manually by downloading the new version and installing it accordingly. Manual installation of update is better because you are able to take control of the site. Some applications have to be removed or deactivated before a newer version of wordpress is installed. If the newer version is installed without deactivating these components, the site may go offline. Manual installation provides a platform to ensure that the site runs smoothly when there is newer wordpress. Always ensure that you submit bugs when you come across them as they may represent vulnerability.

Malicious people and hackers can also be kept at bay by following good wordpress security habits like file permissions and use of passwords. Passwords are important in preventing unauthorised people from getting to your site. Use a password that cannot be guessed by malicious people and hackers. You can include letters, numbers, symbols and other allowed characters to make your password. Do not use your name or any other name that may hint your password to malicious people. The content you publish on the wordpress site should have file permissions. Through permissions, users cannot be able to do anything to the published content other than reading it. If you need comments and reviews from your users, always include a feedback form at the bottom part of your site where users can write their comments.

If by any chance you have several blogs or sites, consider using different databases for the different sites. This minimizes security breaches and vulnerabilities. If one of the databases is attacked successfully, only the site using that particular database will not be available. All other blogs and sites will function normally. This is in contrast to when you could be using one database for all your sites; all the sites you have gone offline if there is an attack.
