Although nowadays e-books are available almost everywhere and people who use e-book reading methods are to be found in most industries from editors to writers. However numerous these may be, they are neglecting an important aspect of e-books, which it the power and impact this medium can have on their audience.

The printed version of books, are no doubt suffering a tremendous hit due the popularity of e-books, even though e-books cannot provide the same environment that is found by actually physically flipping through a book.

Although some of these statements are true, they are purely based on nostalgic sentiments and not on real facts as to the disadvantages of e-books. However, e-books are still not offering more than just another media on which to read books on, there is therefore no value added to the fact that instead of carrying around 20 books you can simply slip your e-book reader in your bag, without added weight.

This clearly shows that e-books are not taking advantage of their full potential. Either, because new technologies take time to develop, or because people are taking too long to adopt this new reading trend. Regardless of the reason, e-books have a great potential that is not being exploited to its best.

As the publishing industries are obviously too slow on the uptake, maybe web designers should start developing the concept of e-books and taking it further. Nowadays all e-books are is a copy of original books, and the development is focusing on rendering the e-books more like the actual tangible versions.

This trend seems useless considering we already have the printed version, and this does not seem to be on the way to extinction. This is why e-books should be heading in a different direction.  However, there are more creative minds in the web designing industry that envision wider sphere for e-books.

Some experts state that computerized documents are not necessarily a simulation of paper, but more a group of ideas created by the human mind for other human minds and the stimulation of these.

What lies in the future for e-books? E-books can evolve into many spheres, and more particularly as interactive fiction or poetry. The concept of e-books should be allowed to evolve as well as the art used to create these books, which in the case of e-books is the narrative itself.

E-books should not be limited in merely simulating books, they should transform the idea of what we define as reading and have it evolve in a more creative and artistic way. E-books are not always standard types, of print in digital form. Behind an e-book you may also find a team of designers, writers and publishers that have fully understood the potential of e-books.

They have an insight as to how e-books should develop in order to be autonomous with respect to printed books, and have therefore started to create unique interactive experiences for readers. These few daring people are paving the way to the e-books of the future.
